Johannes Christian Poppenhagen was born 6 August 1834, Friedrich Poppenhagen was born 28 April 1828 and H[Heinrich]Poppenhagen was born in 1826 in Hamburg, sons of Johannes Friedrich Poppenhagen, Collector of Customs Hamburg, and his wife Henrietta Helms.
Christian arrived in Sydney, NSW Australia in 1853 on the ship �San Francisco�. His brother Friedrich arrived in Sydney in 1858 on the ship �Sylphide� and H. Poppenhagen died at sea on board the �Meteor� in 1856 on a voyage from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia to Calcutta.
Their father Johannes Freidrich Poppenhagen died in Hamburg 8 October 1873. He is listed in the Hamburger Adressb�cher 1873, as a Steuerbeamter at Schreberstrasse 10. 22453 Hamburg.
I have checked the Hamburger Adressb�cher from 1826-1873. The Poppenhagen family are listed.
In the 1826 Adressb�cher: the widow of Helmuth Poppenhagen and Joh.Friedr.Poppenhagen, Kerzengiesser are listed, may be Johannes Friedrich is her son.

Does anyone know this family? Heinrich David Poppenhagen owned a hotel in St Pauli in 1855. We have a post card picture of this taken in 1911,

It is possible there may be descendants of this family living near Hamburg?
Is there anyone living in Hamburg who could obtain Johannes Freidrich Poppenhagen's death record for me please? I need to obtain all the family detail. Perhaps the is information about this family already published and available.
I have written to the Hamburg Standesamt but they say death records for 1873 are held at Staatsarchiv Hamburg, and they don't undertake any research. I can send the money through PayPal if someone can help.
Does anyone know if the Staatsarchiv Hamburg are going to include their digital records at Archion? Then I can search for the family online.
I would be grateful for any assistance, thank you in advance.
