I do not know German but hope someone can help me. I have been trying to find my Pieck and Halbe family records for about 10 years. . I have found an Ev. Lutheran tauf-Reg 1843-1886 for Sudargen, Memmelland, Russia (now Lithuania) on a Mormon film. On it I have found my Grandmother's birth---Joana Friedrika HALBE , parents Friedrich Gustav et Emilie Berta Piek, 24 Juli 1868 Also on the same film is the birth record of my great grandmother (Joana's mother)Emilie Berta PYK, parents Jan Ferdinand et Henrika Huesing, 9 Marz 1850. It also lists her 7 siblings. Last name can be PYK, PIEK, PIECK. I know little about Gustav Halbe's German records but the German ship's list (1868) says his est birth 1844 and Konigsberg (Could be last residence or birth) Joana's ship's list (1871) says Lasdehnen - which I think would be Pillkallin, East Prussia. I have a couple of photographs that say Tilsit/Ragnit. I also have a copy of a document
"PERMISSION TO GO ABROAD" that was signed by the town register, Sudargen Sept 5/17, 1871 and Pastor of the Protestant Lutheran Parish of Szaki. Sudargen (now Sudargas, Lithuania) is just over the border from East Prussia. Does anyone know if there are any records in Vilnius or elsewhere for the Lutheran Church records in Sakiai? Or might they be in Russia, Poland, Berlin, Leipzig?? The Mormons just had this film for Sudargen. I have extensive records on them in the US but all they ever said on records was that they were from Germany. Hope this isn't too confusing. All opinions welcomed. Lois Bolnick
