Pam,
Photographs were not available in the 1700's.
Don't know the exact date but think it was after the 1820's in the USA. They did black, oils, portraits, in most cases, until the photo's.

Shirley,
The photo that I am asking about was taken at a studio in Friedland, Meck-Strelitz. The older couple (born around 1795) lived until 1859 so it would have have been possible for them to be photographed. The younger couple (born 1821) are also candidates of course.
I think it boils down to how old they looked in that photo. The photo was probably taken between 1850 to 1870 I am guessing. If anyone can tell by looking at thier clothes a more definite idea of year that would help.
Pam
Shirley,
Since there is only 24 years of age difference between these couples I am talking about, it ends up being a judgement if the year can be determined by their clothing, and then if their faces give away their ages?
If the year were 1855 then the older couple would about 58 - 60 years old.
Or if the year were let's say, 1865 then the younger couple would be about 45.

Hi Pam,
if I where you, I`d focus on Peters hint.
konzentrieren.

Do on you photo printed a photographers name? I guess it couldt
build in the 1860th.

It is probably a good chance to focus on the photographers name on your
picture, F. W. Steffen. You may be able to find out about his business years
in Friedland.
Good luck
Viel Glck

Pam, the following is a little explanation for all list participants, who do
not speak enough english to follow an english discussion.
knnen.
Herzliche Gre
Best wishes

Hi Pam,
it looks like the photographer (Friedrich) Wilhelm STEFFEN worked at
Friedland from 1856 to c. 1871. In 1871 he purchased a home at
Neubrandenburg (c. 25 km ost of Friedland). We don't know, if he lived here
after 1871 or if he started a 2nd. buisiness here.
Regards from Mecklenburg,

Yes, that is a good hint from Peter. It is possible that either couple would be photographed by the photographer in question. I think it was the younger couple, but that is just a feeling.
The Krüger husband in the photo lookes EXACTLY like a "Charles Krueger " born in the United States in my family 3 or 4 generations later.
