Hi Barbara,
Many, many thanks.... I only looked at the Oelker family line a couple of
days or so ago and was overwhelmed with help. Last night I found the Oelkers
on the RootsWeb website and managed to find my g-g-g-g-grandmother. The
person who had submitted her also managed to get back a further 3
generations on both the maternal and paternal side. I stayed up till 4 am to
write e-mails to distant cousins and am glad to report that I have made
contact with several by now, both in the US and in Petze still. I'll
certainly check out the LDS films...
Still smiling...

PS: If any of you have got someone who emigrated to England, please let me
know. In England we can check out the census of 1901, 1891, 1881, 1871, 1861
and (I think) 1851. On the census are the names, addresses, ages and
professions of the people who lived there. Not much use for me, but my
husband (who's English) found out lots.
