Hello, Susan:

Germany, as ONE country, did NOT (!!!!!) exist until January 18, 1871,
when the Prussian chancellor OTTO VON BISMARCK and the Prussian king
WILHELM I combined all the individual duchies, princedoms, kingdoms,
Hanseatic cities, et cetera, in Central Europe under ONE government,
and that was the emergence of the German empire, GERMANY for short. The
Prussian king WILHELM I became the German emperor (Kaiser) WILHELM I,
and BISMARCK became the German chancellor. MECKLENBURG consisted of two
grand duchies, MECKLENBURG-SCHWERIN and MECKLENBURG-STRELITZ.
(There are at least 3 towns named FUERSTENBERG in Germany. One is a town
on the river ODER in BRANDENBURG, one is a town in LOWER SAXONY on the
river WESER. and one (yours?, 7000 inhabitants) is on the small river
HAVEL in MECKLENBURG.)
There is NO town called FUERSTENBURG listed in my German Auto-Atlas
(scale 1:200,000).

Tschuess!

Your family is probably from the town of Fuerstenberg, Mecklenburg-Strelitz. The church records for the parish in that town are available at any FHC. The film numbers are as follows. #069,732 covers B, M & D 1646-1732 and then 1769-1829 #069,733 covers the B, M & D 1733-1807 #069,734 covers B, C, M & D from 1830 to 1876. You should be able to locate it on any good sized, present day map of Germany. You will find it about halfway between Neubrandenburg and Berlin on Hwy 96. Although the place seems to be already located, one might add other Frstenberg:

- Frstenberg = 78467 Konstanz
- Frstenberg,Baden = 78143 Hfingen
- Frstenberg, Kr.Bren,Westf. = 33181 Wnnenberg
- Frstenberg, Waldeck = 35104 Lichtenfels,Hess

all places had been of its own before and became part of the place with the post-
code behind the "=" sign, none of them is in Mecklenburg, the nearest one
thereto is the last one.
