Dear Hans,
Don't know if this would be of much assistance but did locate a website for Lafayette County Missouri with some resources. Perhaps the author of the page would be of assistance.

Dear Barbie,
thank you very much, I will try it. By the way also thanks again to the others,
through the teamwork, I have got already a very good survey over the family
history of the Lafayette-Paulings, by the way it is the family of Linus C.Pauling
and maybe we will find later on his German roots by following the roots of their
women from Prussia, in one case surely it is Posen.
To my ears, especially knowing about the variations of Potrafke with the ending
"...ki", I would not exclude a Polish heritage, but one should also think of a
Russian origin. In any case it sounds more Slavonic than out of the in
Switzerland spoken language.
There is a special genealogical library in Bergedorf in the local castle or
palace, where might be some informations. The only address I have is the one
below of a researcher, who runs things there for about 40 years, but is not
online and I don't know, if he is still active, but you might try writing a
letter to: Harald Richert, Wentorferstr. 84 a, 21029 Hamburg-Bergedorf. But be
patient, if the answer will last some time.
Greetings Hans Peter Albers
