I am new to this site. I do not read German. Can anyone please tell me how
to translate into English using some program on the computer?

Since most of our ancestors in Eastern Prussia used a local dialect called German to commuicate, while they were living, the records were kept in either German or Latin. What's even worth, some off their children, grandchildren etc today still live in Germany <even if the East-Prussian ancestors spoke
a Lithunian or Polish dialect.
Thus the convention of this list is to use German as a prime language. BUT it is a unsubstantiated rumor, that people using English <or American> will be shot at dawn and will not get an answer nor any attention....
So I recommend to go through the trouble of reading the messages in GERMAN <the names are usually interchangeable <unless your ancestors emigrated to the states and fall into the hands of the "Chief Irish translator of the immigration office"> At that point it`s a good advice to use bablefish to get
a general idea, what people "did not mean to say"....
I have seen messages in this list: "I have seen a message in this list with the name xxxx, I have a gr-grandmother with the same name <"Paul Admoneitis> could somebody give me a hand in telling me what that message really meant" You will most likely get an answer, in what the person answering, thought was English.....
If you want to post a message yourself, use simple terms and abbreviations like * + oo and the European convention of dates <dd,mm,yyyy> and people
will understand what you mean
