OT: Speaking German

I live in the US and am about 80% German based on my ancestors.
However even the latest, emigrated to the US about four generations
ago. So I have never had significant exposure to the German
language. Since m German is horrible; between Google Translate and
my limited knowledge of the German Language I try to follow the threads
   in German.

Sometime I have information that I would like add to the
conversation. I have always worked on the theory that a post in good
English would be better communicate the information than my poor
attempts to write in the message in German

Would the people who speak German as their main language prefer to
translate a English message; or to comprehend a message in bad German?

I'm in the U.S. also.
When writing to Germany or posting, I always write in two languages:

1. Original English
2. "Google Translate Deutsch" (My English run through Google Translate)

That way they can get a feel for the content from "Google Translate Deutsch"
- but still refer back to the original English for details, proper names,
etc..

Hallo Keith,

Vorschlag: Beitrag in beiden Sprachen, deutsch und englisch
Ich habe dies ab und zu getan und niemand hatte daran etwas auszusetzen

Suggestion: post in both languages, German and English
I have done this occasionally and no one objected.

Viele Grüsse,

Susanne (Sweeney)

There are probably enough members in the list who can read and write English, including myself.
Writing in English here would be better than bad German. And we always use Google

Though half German, I do not speak the language so I always select
English. Jeanie
