Yes, I can post in English! I live in Canada.
I am able to find my family's name in church records of East Prussia, back
to late 1600's, mostly in Ermland, which was predominately Catholic.
The name is Plohmann. I have been told that the Dutch were brought into
East Prussia to drain the land, to make it suitable for farming.
In Germany, I have also found the name Ploegmann, and was told it was Dutch.
I was wondering if the East Prussians had changed it in spelling, to
Plohmann. The meaning of the name Plohmann was a man who plowed, or made
plows. I am sure there was a "plow man" in most languages.
There are no records of the names of people that were employed to drain the
land.
It seems my grandfather's grandfather moved to West Prussia in 1806, and
changed his religion from Catholic to Lutheran, probably when he married a
Lutheran woman. But every Plohmann that I found records of, was a
shoemaker.
I don't need the book, but thanks for the offer.
