Hello,
Thanks to all who helped me decipher the earlier records.
In tracing this Meyer family I have come across another question in the records.
I have pasted a link for the marriage record of Christopher Henrich Meyer and Catharina Maria Lührmann on August 18, 1795 below. I know the wife dies living in the Leibzucht for Meyer zu Westrup on April 27, 1840. When their son Johan Henrich is baptized on May 28, 1812 (link pasted below), Johann Matthias, the Colon for Meyer zu Westrup (22 years old at the time), acts as the godfather.
The previous Colon Meyer zu Westrup and his wife both died in 1795, when Johann Matthias was 5 and his oldest brother was 17. Christopher Henrich Meyer gets married a month later, and I think the marriage record says he works on the farm. I can't make out exactly what the marriage record says about Christopher. It's in Latin, and I think the terms used refer to a laborer. I'm also not sure what is on the end of the farm name, which I think is Meyer...? (maybe Meyerhofes) zu Westrup. Since the Colon and his wife died when all of the children were minors, and Christopher's wife ended up living in the Leibzucht, is it possible he/they were acting as guardians for the children? The same type of strange ending seems to be used in the birthplace for Christopher's son Johann Henrich in the baptismal record below.
Could someone help me make out the terms used on the marriage record and baptism (and what they mean in this context)? If there were all minor children when a Colon died, are there any records that would indicate how the land was managed until the children came of age (e.g., in the US I would check guardianship records)?
Thanks,Don
