Hello List;
A comprehensive list of German and Polish place names is available at www.kartenmeister.com<http://www.kartenmeister.com> . Additional information such as population data, location of the Lutheran parish, location of the Catholic parish and location of civil records is also shown. You can view the email addresses of people researching family names from a given village or add your name and email as an interested individual.
Once you have your place name located, you can go to www.mapywig.org<http://www.mapywig.org> to get large scale maps of the part of former East and West Prussia that are now in Poland. I would suggest the 'Active Indexes' 'WIG 1: 100 00" (Przeglądarka skorowidzów ) that shows maps from the 1920's and 1930's generally according to the county (Kreis) name. Maps that are available are highlighted in hypertext. Maps are usually available in either 300 dpi or 600 dpi resolution and are offered free of charge. The can be saved by right-clicking the image with your mouse and using the 'Save picture as..' option.
If anyone thinks this email may be of interest to the List, feel free to offer a translation of it into German.
Regards,
David Roepke
