Once again August Hattorff

Dear Listies

Once again the problem with August Hattorff, Rena found him in the archive
in England

AUGUST HATTORFF
Born SCHONINGEN, Hanover
Served in King's German Legion
Discharged aged 44

The problem is i have been sending someone for making researches in the
churchbooks of Schoningen near Uslar........ no August Hattorff born there.

So the last hope is they made a mistake and meant not Schoningen they meant
Schöningen, but this is not in Hanover this is part of Brunswick ....And of
course you can find the churchbooks of Schöningen not in Hannover they are in
Wolfenbüttel, at the present time i have no one who can make researches there.

Anyone out there who has a name or an adress of someone working in
Wolfenbüttel? Genealogist, historian ...or whatever.

Thanks to you all for your help

Have a nice easter holiday

Conrad Fehlig of Harsum was in the army of Hanover. Can there be any info on
his service?

What happened to Hanoverian soldiers after the Battle of Langensalsa? Fehlig
showed up in St. Louis in 1867.

Bob Doerr in the beautiful Missouri Ozarks

Hello, Bob,

After the battle of Langensalza and capitulation 1866 the army of the Kingdom of Hanover was demobilized. The soldiers who survived partially were brought to Celle and partially to Hildesheim for release. It was a very sad welcome, because many relatives learned, that their sons or husbands had been killed.
Some of the soldiers later joined the Prussian army, especially if they were not from the Welfen party. Other, more clinged to Hanoverian ideals, avoided the Prussian army and emigrated.
There is a moving book, which may be still present in some libraries: Hartmann, Erinnerungen eines Deutschen Offiziers, Wiesbaden, 1890. In this book the whole North German history from 1848 - 1874 is told, together with human background.

Helmut (from Muenster, Westf.)

Lieber Helmut,

Viele Dank.

Then it seems that the soldiers of Hannover were not drafted into the
Prussian army?

Were officers and enlisted men treated alike in this regard?
