OLF/ALF in Hannover

Dear Hannover List,

I am looking for information on my great-grandmother's family. Unfortunately
I don't have many leads - she married a Miller and lived in Chicago (really a
needle in a haystack). Elisabeth/Elisa OLF/ALF was born in Hannover (city or
duchy) in 1861. Her father was probably a blacksmith. They were Lutherans.
She and her husband immigrated to America in 1884, first tried homesteading
in Kansas, then travelled by covered wagon to Chicago.

Has anyone seen the surname OLF or ALF in the Hannover area? Any suggestions
would be appreciated. Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,
Katherine

Have you tried the German Archive and Immigration books by Vollmer at the
FHL in Salt Lake City? They are excellent but I do not believe they have
been microfilmed.

I am assuming you have checked http://www.ellisisland.org and
http://foko.genealogy.net for information and leads to others searching the
family. The immigration records book mentioned above mention the towns they
were born and were living when they immigrated.
