Oldenburg-Pundsack Catharine Ahlers Luers

Hi Nancy

Do you have any more details of Parentage ,siblings of Catherine Ahlers who
marries Johan Tebben . I wonder if the young men and women took a "lucky dip
"out of a very restricted pool of available spouse material with very
similar or related names .....
you write :"Johan Arnold Luers married Catharina Maria Niemann also known
as K?tter. > They produced Johan Antonius Luers, baptized at St Laurentius
Catholic

Church, Langf?rden, Oldenburg on 12 Oct 1740" in my records Arndt
(Arnold) Pundsack ,later calls himself Luers after marrying Gesina Maria
Albers "condicta JanLuers" on 28Ja1777 in Visbek and produce Johann
HermanLuers (JanLuers)on 4No1787 who marries the widow Maria Elisabeth
Ahlers nee Nemann on 11Ap1815 ,widow of Johan Alerdt Ahlers nee
Hurrelberg ,whom she had married on 23 Feb1813 .Johan Hurrelberg born
1760-80 was widower of Catharina Ahlers ,whom he had married obviously
before 1813 who appeared to be the Zeller . Does anyone have any
background information about that Ahlers lady ? Confused ? You bet you
ought to be ! I am .

Henk Aalders

Can anybody explain to me why these people used different surnames?

As near as I can tell, surnames were not as "automatic" as they are now, and
people used names referencing where they lived, or what job they did, or
some physical characteristic. But Luers doesn't seem to be any of those
things. (Does anyone know it's meaning?) Some men took their wife's last
name (how very modern of them!) But others seem to have adopted it
randomly.

Hi Linda,
the Pagenstert book about history farms in "Amte Vechta" mean this:
The first name Ludger became Luhr, Luermann, Luers.
Have a nice day,
