Oldenburg-L Digest

My mission to find my great grandfather and any other progeny has been
stopped by the fact that the small towns in Oldenburg, Kuhlen, Barghorn and
Grossenmeer are only archived in the various churches, not available at
Ancestry.com nor with the family search library. Is that true? Is there no
one place in Oldenburg that serves genealogists, like in Bremen? Here is my
'brick wall':
Fredrick Burghard Morisse, b. 05 Jul 1842, Oldenburg, married Helene Elise
Janssen, b. 01 Jul 1851 in Kuhlen, (married 30 May 1879), immigrated to U.S.
(Texas) in October 1891.
What I am looking for is Fredrick Burghard Morisse's family origin,
parents, brothers, etc. I am trying to trace back his French name (?). I
have Helene's Janssen family. Where would I look for that information?
Your expertise is important in this search, and I thank you in advance.
  Happy New Year!

Hello Dina,

a friend was so kind to check the church books of Strückhausen and found yours ancestor:

- Friedrich Burchard Morisse, born 05.Jul.1842 in Colmar(part of parish Strückhausen)
Parents: Bruno Morisse, Heuerköter in Colmar (hireling with own small house)
           and Anna Catharina Wulf

He will check more and send it to me - wait and see.

Meantime I found the passenger list of this family by www.castlegarden.org :

name age arrival NY ship
RICHARD MORISSE SHOEMAKER 49 M 15 Oct 1891 GERMANY SPREE
ELISE MORISSE WIFE 40 F 15 Oct 1891 GERMANY SPREE
SOPHIE MORISSE CHILD, YOUNGSTER 8 F 15 Oct 1891 GERMANY SPREE
ANNA MORISSE CHILD, YOUNGSTER 7 F 15 Oct 1891 GERMANY SPREE
RICHARD MORISSE CHILD, YOUNGSTER 6 M 15 Oct 1891 GERMANY SPREE
LINRICH MORISSE CHILD, YOUNGSTER 5 M 15 Oct 1891 GERMANY SPREE
GEORG MORISSE CHILD, YOUNGSTER 4 M 15 Oct 1891 GERMANY SPREE
HELENE MORISSE CHILD, YOUNGSTER 3 F 15 Oct 1891 GERMANY SPREE
ELISE MORISSE CHILD, YOUNGSTER 2 M 15 Oct 1891 GERMANY SPREE
DIEDR. MORISSE INFANT 11 m M 15 Oct 1891 GERMANY SPREE

Richard is a wrong copy and should be Burchard, also Linrich should be Hinrich.
I think you know this. The ship started in Bremerhaven via Southampton to New York.
I have the dates and a picture of the ship.

I hope it helps, later more.

Have a nice weekend,
Werner Honkomp
