Oldenburg Families in Cincinnati @ Old St Mary Church

My apologies to everyone on the listserv, I didn't realize that an attachment wouldn't go thru. I have typed out the list and referenced the source for anyone who is interested. The windows are beautiful and many include the name of the donor on the bottom. My relatives are Window 12.

Thank you for the information. None of my ancestors are on the list, but my g-g-grandfather's funeral (Gerhardus Heinricus Josephus Kramer, born Rieste 8 Dec 1827) was conducted there in Nov 1887. I visited the church last year and again this past May. The church is beautiful and the windows breath-taking. I highly recommend to everyone visiting Cincinnati to put Old St.Mary's on their list of places to stop by. The cemetery is also worth the visit. You can search all their burials (plus other Catholic cemeteries in Cincinnati) at their website http://www.cccsohio.org. The city of Cincinnati also has their birth and death records online and can be searched at their website Cincinnati Birth and Death Records | Digital Collections and Repositories | UC Libraries.

Great info.

Does anybody know if records, baptized, death....ect., exist for the old Saint Mary's church and where would they be located.
Thanks in advance

Thanks
Steve Hellmann of Edgewood, KY

Steve,

The archive is currently closed and we are told that they are requesting that all parishes turn in their books. However, I may be able to help. Email me tomorrow at khreed@cinci.rr.com. I'll give you my phone number.

ST Mary's Church is indeed a beautiful church - my husband's grandfather Joseph Steinkamp was the architect - there are several buildings in cinci that are in the national register that he designed - he also designed some of the Xavier U. buildings - we're happy to hear you enjoyed your visit to the church - martha & dick steinkamp

Hello Martha,

interesting to read, that yors husband grandfather was Josef Steinkamp. Is he related to Bernard Steinkamp at the Window 2?
I saw this window also at our Honkomp-Reunion 2005 in Cincinnati:
http://www.honkomp.de/honkomp-reunion-in-cincinnati-2005/

Do you know more about Bernard Steinkamp, could it be that this family came over from Neuenkirchen-Nellinghof?

Regards,

Yes, Bernard and Joseph were brothers and at the time they had the largest architectural firm in cinci - the market crash put an end to the business -

we are getting ready to leave for spain -i wrote a book about spain;'s participation in the independence of the united states and have been invited to speak in several venues in spain -

upon our return will send you all the information on the family - we did a great deal of research and found a distant steinkamp relative in oldenburg who has located the steinkamp farm from many, many years ago and we stay in touch ith him - his name is Klaus Steinkamp who we plan to visit sometime next year - will "talk" to you in a few weeks - m.

Just a quick message. I do not know how this may fit in with your Steinkamps
I have at Minster, Ohio, for a short time, HERMAN HEINRICH STEINKAMP and
his wife MARIA ELISABETHA KRAMER. They are supposed to have come from Damme.
Thanks, Fr. David Hoying

Steve , many church records have been indexed, including at least some of St Mary, & are available at the Cincinnati Library. If you haven't accessed the library , it has an excellent genealogy section

Steve, The original records are kept by the Catholic Diocese of Cincinnati. I attempted to get my gggranfather's death record from them earlier in the year, but they wrote back advising the records were currently unavailable (being relocated, I think), and unfortunately they didn't know when, or even IF they would be able to send me the requested information in the future. I thought I'd try them again sometime next year, but who knows ....
