To make an international phone call from the states you dial 001 49 and then
the area code and phone number. The 001 gets you into the international
network, and Germany's code is 49. If you want to find a German #, do a
google search for - Teleauskunft - that is the German phone book. The area
codes will all start with a '0', drop the first 0 (zero) when you dial
internationally.
