Hello Velma,
I visited two times the archive in Vechta.
For your Henry Taphorn I checked all the church books of Oldenburger-Münsterland between 1840 and 1842. I found only this Taphorn records:
*18.Apr.1840 Lohne, Franz Gerd Henrich, parents: Gerd Henrich Tappehorn - Margaretha Schwegmann
*30.Apr.1841 Lohne, Henrich, parents: Johan Herm Tappehorn - Maria Elisabeth Grabber
*30.Jul.1841 Dinklage, Johann Henrich, 1.child, parents: Gerhard Henrich Taphorn - Anna Elis. Högemann
no records in Damme or Amt Damme, e.g. Neuenkirchen, Holdorf
Then I checked the passenger lists at our University.
Ship SCHILLER, arrival Baltimore 26.Oct.1860
it listed Heinrich Taphorn, age 19 years and 3 month, farmer, from Oldenburg to Cincinnati
Referring to this information I assume it could be Johann Henrich Taphorn, born 30.July 1841 in Dinklage
In additional of this I checked also the years 1869 - 1875 Damme and Neuenkirchen for Maria Taphorn, born 1.Apr.1872, but I could not find a record.
I can't believe, that the first two childs of Henrich Taphorn and Maria Feldhaus was born in Ohio and the third child Maria in Neuenkirchen/Oldenburg. Could it be, that Ohio have also a place Neuenkirchen !?
What I could find is record of birth for the husband of Maria Taphorn:
*07.Juni 1870 Damme, Johann Georg Taube, parents: Friedrich Taube - Bernardine Winner by Pienings in Rottinghaus
(an additional notice I can't understand says: from Neuenkirchen, my be they moved from Neuenkirchen to Damme-Rottinghaus)
Between 1869 - 1875 I found in Damme and Neuenkirchen only one Taphorn record:
*12.Oct.1873 Neuenkirchen, Friedrich Theodor Gustav Tapphorn,
parents: Gustav Tapphorn - Maria Josephina Bergmann (name from Damme) by Piening or Liening?
witnesses:Friedrich Taube, Naberhaus, Bernd Greving, Maria Gr. Bergmann
That's all. I hope it help at your puzzle.
Werner
