Hello,
Could anyone give me a brief history of Oldenburg as it was in the late
l500's? If someone were listed as a "ground owner" in l583, but half
belonged to "the count," who would the count have been, and how might this
situation have come about?
Could you also recommend a good book (in English) on the history of Oldenburg?

Isn't that sort of like asking for a book on the history of
Pennsylvania in Chinese? I mean why would anybody write such a
thing. Who would buy it?

The thing about ground ownership is tricky business. No one really
"owned" the ground. Even the counts got their liens from the
emperor. People under the counts typically had a liegelord
relationship withn him. People did not treat land as something to
advertise on the real estate market. One obtained rights to use the
land rather then own it.
