Recently found a short paragraph about my grandfather's military service and
very interested in acquiring more information about him and his service time.
In part his statement is as follows:
"...served with the German Army during the Franco-Prussian War in 1870-71, as
a member of the Fourth Company of the Ninety-first Regiment of Infantry.
Remained in France until the fall of 1872, then returned to his home in
Hullstede (bei Westerstede)..."

Donna, not that it does you much good at this point but I have the
entire history of the 91st at home. This describes the various
battles in detail by unit sometimes down to platoon level.
Individuals are also mentioned if they did some daring deed or were
wounded or died in battle. I won't be able to get to this book until
next May.

"A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the
world walks out."
in the book "Geschichte des Oldenburgischen Infanterie-Regiments Nr. 91"
(History of the Oldenburg Infantry Regiment No. 91) by Eduard von Finckh
(Berlin 1881) there are 25 pages about the regiment's actions as part of the
German occupation army in France from Juny 5th, 1871 till Aug. 13th, 1873.
The regiment was stationed in Troyes, Chaumont, Toul and Lunville. There
are only a few names, mainly officers, mentioned, but you can find lists of
the soldiers killed in action and of those who got medals.
Kind regards

Although you do not have the book with you do you know by chance the author
or the title of it ? Probably there is one in the libraries around.
I am cherching for 4 former inhabitants of the village of Littel. Actually
today the Volksbund wrote me that there is no note within their system about
them.
