[OL]Re:German Names

Hi Kennett,

Nope, Gerhard is not George, these names definitely have different origins.
Gerhard would in OL-German be called 'Gerd', he might be 'Jerry' in American
English. But then, you never know what your ancestor - or the immigration
officer - made of the name, so George is still a possibility. I would guess
that these people were not the same.

Having German ancestors named 'Muller' (Mu"ller), of course, is punishment,
Mu"ller being one of the most common surnames in Germany (do feel glad you
avoided 'Meier').

Please, do also consider, that the Kingdom of Hannover and the Duchy of
Oldenburg (you did not give dates) were different entities in the 18xx's.
Marrying someone from 'a foreign country' would have meant a lot of social
contact between the people. What I mean here is that they came from two
places where the two states met. ??)

Regards
Heiko
