Thank you for the information. Yes, my ancestors were Catholic, so it
is logical that they were from the southern part of Oldenberg as you
have told me. Every piece of information helps me to focus in on the
geographic area of Oldenberg my ancestors were from. I have looked at
microfilm records of German churches, but I am not sure that I was
looking at the correct records. I found no Puntes or Krogmanns in the
records provided through the Ladder Day Saints (LDS) organization. I
will now look in the geographic areas you have provided.
I am trying to translate Otto's file with an on-line dictionary. I am
able to get a fairly good literal interpretation. There are translation
resources available both in my genealogy society and in the locale.
Many people in the area work for the US government (we are near
Washington, DC). Many are engaged in translating languages in their
jobs.
Any additional information is greatly appreciated.
