I am studying Bartels from Oldenburg also - My group is August and Catherine
Walker Bartels. children Sophie, August, William, Charles, Marie Theresa. I
believe a Ferdinand and George as well. I have naturalization papers that
refer to a Matheny. My August had a contemporary in NYC for a while 1 year
apart, wife, Catherine also and children with the same names just a year or
so apart. They lived in a different part of NYC and left shortly after the
census of 1870.
He was a lamplighter, a bronzer and lived near todays Carnegie Hall 284 10th
Ave.
