Thank you to all who have replied to my query about Dietrich Henry Kueter/Kuether.
I have just reviewed his application for American citizenship, and his name is spelled Kuether on than document. Obviously his name was Americanized to Kueter based upon this. The death records from St. Boniface Church in Germantown, Illinois list his parents as John Kueter/Kuether and Gesina Lubbers/Luebbers.
Actually I do not find 'your' Dietrich Henry KTHER in the names list
(mainly land owners) of our village LITTEL which is located south of
OLDENBURG.
There are a lot of Kther (as well as Kter) south of Oldenburg in the
parishes of Wardenburg, Groenkneten, Bsel, etc. But the combination of the
parents name (Johann KTHER and Gesine LBBERS) is special. Both family
names exist in Littel at that time (1835).
I found the family name KTER approx. 1715 the first time in LITTEL. This
family probably was originally from the parish of Groenkneten. Since 1794
they are mentioned as an owner of a small farm in the fire insurance records
of LITTEL (Johann Hinrich KTER -> Johann Gerd KTHER(1794) -> Johann
Hinrich (1834) -> Anna Katherine (1840) CORDES borned KTHER).
Therefore I recommend you to write to the genealogist of the Wardenburg
parish.
