[OL]John Jacobi + Catharine Sittig ex Kruikendal?

Dear list Members,

a distance relative of Texas ask me for the place "Kruikendal" in Germany. But I can't find this name or a name like this.

The marriage record
"Registrum Matrimoniorum in Ecclesia S.S. Petri & Paul in loco Frelsburg, Dioecesis Galvestonensis (I think Galvestone TX)
dated Octob.15.1882 says:
Joamiem Mich. Jacobi ex loco Kruikendal, Filium Gustav Jacobi & Theresia Preisz
et Catharina Sittig ex loco Kruikendal, Filiam Francis Sittig & Elisabeth Meier

This marriage record say, they came from Kruikendal, but where is Kruikendal located, Germany, U.S.A. or Netherland?

I know this both persons are born in Bodenrode-Westhausen close to Heilbad Heiligenstadt in Eichsfeld/Thuringia and emigrated from Westhausen to the States. But around Westhausen is not a place like this name (I ask the Land registry).

Could it be, that this place is located in Texas ??

Werner

Werner,
I think that name has to be spelled wrong. I have searched
everywhere I can think of and cannot find Kruikendal anywhere. In Texas,
there are people by the name of Kirkendal. If you look in the LDS website,
there are many Jacobi's and Sittigs from Thuringen, but not a town that I
can see that is close to Kruikendal. Sorry I couldn't help--
Barbara

Werner, a search at http://geonames.usgs.gov/geonames/gnis.html doesn't list
a location with the spelling of Kruikendal, however the form more commonly
used Kuykendall (or Kuykendahl) did yield several results. The most
promising location in Texas was a ranch in Hays county Texas. But I don't
know if the Galveston Diocese would extend that far.

Fran

Werner and Barbara,

There was an early pioneer family in Texas named Kuykendall. Perhaps for a time there was a settlement named for them there which has since been lost to history?
