I do not speak or read German., Looking for John Herman Heinrich Hinze or Hintze etc. came from Lauenberg, Holstein, Oldenberg as far as we know. Family came to America during 1850's, he was marreid to Dorothea Schafer they had Heinrich 1824, Wilhelmine 1826, Dorothea 1834, John Henry Herman Hinze born 1836 Lauenberg, Holstein Germany, Carl born 1840, Wilhelm 1847, can you tell me where to start for records or where this area would be?

We have in Germany a village Lauenberg as a part of Dassel. It is located
in former Kingdom of Hannover, between Holzminden - Einbeck.
I think it should be Lauenburg on the Elbe river south of Hamburg. This is
located in the State Schleswig-Holstein.
Formerly it was the Dukedom Lauenburg with connetion to the Dukedom
Oldenburg with the part L�beck/Eutin. Today also a part of
Schleswig-Holstein.
In both towns lives some Hinz, but not Hinze or Hintze. In Lauenburg you can
find two Schaefer addresses.

I was just there in that area a couple months ago. It is up in the NW part
of Germany. I was up to Wallenhorst-Rulle and Osnabrueck meeting with folks
who could be related to me. Holstein isn't too far from there as I
remember.
