Dear all,
I have 2 questions:
Can anyone, please tell me what the word 'Auffahrt'means in the following sentence:
Quote:
Verzeichnis der seit 1766 vorgefallenen Veränderungen: Brörmann bei der Beeke, Heinrich Blömer, *1716, gestorben 1771, Auffahrt 30 Taler, Sterbegeld 1771 31 Taler 15. Unquote
Who came into possession of the site in the following sentence (Heinrich von Damme or his stepson?): (I think it is the stepson)
Quote:
Thale Brörmann, verheiratet mit Heinrich von Damme, hat keine Kinder gehabt, weil Heinrich einen Stiefsohn gehabt, ist selbigen die Stätte eingetan.
Unquote
Thanking you in advance,

Think of Auffahrt as a tax which gives inheritance rights to a
descendant. The Sterbegeld is also a death tax. They did not have
income tax back then but certain annual payments for various rights
to farm etc had to be paid. What was then accumulated during a
lifetime of work was again taxed at death. We did not invent modern
taxes.

You are correct it was the stepson who inherited the estate.
