Kennett W. from Cincinnati asked if the name Gerhard was interchangeable with George in the U.S.
My ancestors who immigrated from Löningen, Oldenburg to Cincinnati as „Gerhard“ Fatmann or „Gerhard“ Woltermann were both later, in Cincinnati, called „George“ Fatmann or „George“ Woltermann. Maybe it was just a Cincinnati custom, or mistake, but it was done consistently in several records there, for two different families.
