[OL]Fehrenkamp Family

Hello list members,

I am researching my husbands family and I would appreciate any help finding
where this family was from and where they were born.

I have found where they came to the US by ship in Dec.1847 at Galveston,
Texas. No departure site was stated other than Germany. They are:
    Johann Gerhard Fehrenkamp b. 20 Sept. 1809
his wife: Helen Wilhellmina (? Weete) b. 21 Feb. 1814
    their children:
Johann Heinrich Fehrenkamp b. 27 Feb. 1840 Faderberg or
Jaderberg,Oldenburg, Germany
Sophie Fehrenkamp b. Abt. 1842 Faderberg, Germany
Johann Gerhard Fehrenkamp b. 18 March 1845 Faderberg, Germany

The children were all baptized at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Frelsburg,
Colorado County, Texas and most are buried on the same site. In some of the
Texas church records it states that some were from Jaderberg, Oldenburg.
This has caused me some confusion and some have mentioned that there is no
Faderberg and that this was a handwriting error with the letter J to F.

In this area of Texas there are 3 groups of Fehrenkamp's, all from Germany.
We have all come into contact in the last year and are now trying to find how
we are connected.

I would also appreciate some help with the areas of Germany such as
Oldenburg, Jade, etc., as they are in relationship with the division in the
US. Is Oldenburg a state as Texas is a state in the US? I've also notice on
some maps that there is a Jade, is this a state or a county? Is there also a
town or city named Jade or Jader? This is confusing for me and I really
would like to understand it.

All help would be very much appreciated.
Thank from Ellen in Texas

Dear Mrs. 9shot,

There is a Jaderberg. That is a place in the church parish Jade.
Jade is village and a river. The Jade bay is on the North Sea with
Wilhelmshaven.

There is a village family book of Jade at the Niedersaechisches Staatsarchiv in
Oldenburg, prepared by Fitz Oeltjen. The archives crew will look for your
Fehrenkamp family: Poststelle@staatsarchiv-ol.niedersachsen.de. Send an email,
but don t forget to add your first & last name and complete address.

They will ask a fee.

Sincerely yours
