This kind of 'public' information should not really be in any one
person's or society's home pages were most people can't find it. I
know we don't have a set of Oldenburg pages on genealogy.net but we
should. Societies which collect data tend to take an ownership
position to what others contribute for public dissemination. I see
this in the Franken area all the time and don't really contribute
anything as only members can access this data. All information about
the past should be open and available to all in a place anyone can
find.
