[OL]Batch #'s

Hello George,
I'm not familiar with the FHL records, therefore I forwarded your question to the Oldenburg lists.

Over the past few years I have found many useful Batch #'s for transcribed
microfilm records, such as many Ohio county marriage records, New Amsterdam
Dutch Reformed church records (New York) christenings & marriages as well as a
number of Dutch Reformed records for churches in NJ. In all cases it has been
luck finding the batch #. Searching for an individual & getting a "hit" and then
looking at the source or call # which is unusually the film #.

Marriage record batch #'s will always begin with "M", Christening or Baptism #'s
-b-egin with "C" & I've also found some with "j". That is the usual clue that
you've hit upon a batch of transcribed records. Checking the source will usually
confirm that the information is from court or church records.

There have been very few cases that I have found batch #'s by checking the film
notes when looking for a films from a particular area. So, I always make a note
of the Batch # for a particular set of records as I've found I can find other
individuals of interest in the records as well.

Hope this helps?
