Offermann/Ihlienworth/Luthern/Civil Registry

Greetings. Someone on this list provided an address for the Luthern Church in Ihlienworth. I just received a most disappointing response, saying it will be impossible for them to look at their records. This is most disappointing, as I know this is the exact small town that my Great Grandmother came from & my Great Great Grandparents resided. Does anyone have the address for the Civil Registry for Ihlienworth? Thanks in advance for your help.Joy

Joy,
You must remember that the pastors in German churches have other things to
do than search through records recorded more than one hundred years ago,
which they can no longer decipher. Just because it's written in German does
not mean that just anyone can read it, not to mention translate it into
English so that you can read it.
Because of the increased number of requests from American researchers, many
pastors just simply refuse to take on these additional duties for which
they are not being paid.
Church records, once the primary source for recording births, marriages and
deaths, became secondary sources in 1875 when the civil registry was begun.
Only you know whether the records you're searching for fall into the time
frame of prior or after 1875.
Here are some suggestions:
1. Check to see if the records are available on microfilm from the LDS.

2. If not, hire a reputable researcher from the area and have him/her
search the records for a fee.

3. Make a donation to the church in the name of your ancestor and perhaps
the pastor can find someone in the congregation who is willing to look up
the records, make a copy of them, and mail them to you. You can always find
someone here in the US (like me), who is able to translate them for you.

You can google for the civil registry in Ihlienworth by looking for the
address of the "Standesamt".

I hope that something works for you.

I wish you luck in your research.

Ladies,
I feel you frustrations. Over 2 months ago I contacted a Ev-Luth pastor that covers the Croya parish in Hanover. My request asked the location of the church records or even if they exist today. Also if she might recommend a name of someone in the area I might pay to research for me. First reply it was Easter time and she was busy. No responses since. Frustrated I located this site and again asked for assistance. One reply was from a person that wanted 35 Euro per hour and felt a minimum of 10 hours plus travel and copies and mailing costs extra. When you furnish them the name, date of birth, Marriage date, and parish and the person works for the church in the parish involved. 35 Euro or $55.00 US dollars is an exhorborante rate, sorry. Either they're dyslectic or just wear a mask............................R.L.
