Hello I am happy to find this list, as almost all of my ancestors came
from towns around Hanover. I am still new to hw to navigate and find
information from the archives, and my German is rusty.
I was doing a Google search and found this message from sometime in 2004:

I am very interested is anyone knows anything about the surname Oetke, which
is my maiden name, and is mentioned in the above post.
What I have found is that my great grandfather Joachim Heinrich Frederick
Oetke (known as Henry in the US) was born 3 Jan 1855 in Hanover. His wife
was Dorothea May Weidler, born 16 Dec 1854 in Hanover. They had a daughter
Dorothea around 1882 and came to the USA in April 1883 on Hohenzollern into
Baltimore. Place from indicates Prussia. Joachim H Oetke, age 27, Dorothea
Oetke age 28, Dorothea Oetke 11 months old, and Dorothea Weidler age 64
(mother in law), who I believe was known as Elizabeth in the US. She was
born in 1815 and died in Lombard IL in 1894.
Would appreciate any information on the Oetke or Weidler surnames.
Thanks so much,
Carole Oetke Townsend
