THEODOR HARTMANN was my great-grandfather, born in West Prussia in 1857.
I have a discharge paper from 1877 from the 'achte bezirk brigade aus SCHLOCHAU' which is today CZLUCHOW in Poland and slightly south west of Danzig.
He came to USA in 1892 on the NordLloyd ship "AMERIKA". He was accompanied by wife MATILDA (Tillie) TESSMER(TESSMAYER) and children JOHN, MARIE, FRANZ AND THEODORE.
Earlier HARTMANNS to leave this area included FRIEDERICK HARTMANN and his wife ALWINE and their daughter. I suspect he is a brother..no proof.
When Theodor and Matilda came to the USA, they stopped enroute west to see her relatives in Wallingford, CT. He found employment and they stayed here. It is possible Friedrick (and other siblings) continued west. We have no communication.
