My message about learning German was a response to a man who felt he was 'too old' at 55 to try to learn. I guess you are as old as you feel.
To reply to your question: THEODOR HARTMANN came here in 1893 for Westpreussen. He was born in 1857, soldiered in the'achte bezirk brigad' for Schlochau in 1877 was discharged for a 'great scar on the foot'. He married MATHILDE TESSMER (tessmayer?) With 4 children, including my grandfather, John, he left Bremen on the 'Amerika" to New York.
Moms Parents were August Mueller and Anna Markowski who were married in 1904 in St Anns Church, Kuztova(Kreis Wirsitz). They came here in 1907.
