Dear Friends,

I have found my ancestor to Missouri from Laehden, Weser Ems, Germany. However on his Auswander? ungsverzeichnissen (don't know what this word means) said he was "Will in Melville heiraten" to marry?? I think it means in English?

The age is correct, the year is correct...the name is correct, but the place is not correct, on my records. I believe I did find the correct record but the place to immigrate is incorrect or mayhap a fabrication?

Or I am dreaming and all the work I have done is moot. Would a 33 year old man maybe be conscipted to the armies in 1857? Or I guess Melville is Melle? south of Osnabrueck? Is that anyway near a seaport? I truly believe this is my ancestor but the German records at Osnabrueck said his permit was to Mellville??? To Heiraten?

I found him same age, on passenger list to New Orleans with wifes family I am certain.. Their ages match, and the siblings of the wife match Missouri records.

My mother tells me that her father always said they were Dutch ..so makes sense from the Emsland? I guess??? German Dutch he always said.

I know the Saint Louis Records are my family, I have traced them backwards with church records here in my hometown.

Why would Osnabrueck archives have his permit to Melleville??? What is Melleville? There is a Melleville in Saint Louis County but not during this time period I don't believe.

Regards,
B. Lewandowski
