Hello listmembers,
I am working on my German ancestors, but have very
little information to go on. There is even
inconsistencies in how the names are spelled - some
members of the family used BLOME, and some used BLOOM,
some used SCHIFFMAN, and others used SCHEFFMANN.
The information I have is as follows:
My great-grandfather was Bernhard Christopher BLOME.
He was born in Germany in February 1846.
My great-grandmother was Marie SCHIFFMAN
She was born in Germany in October 1852
My grandmother was Louisa May BLOME.
She was born in Lippe-Detmold in December 1880.
I found an ship's record for Marie and Louise BLOME,
on the SS General Werden, which left Bremen and
reached New York City on 7 November 1881.
The family moved to several places in the United
States after coming here, two of my grandmother's
brothers were born in Illinois, one brother was born
in Nebraska, and one brother was born in Montana. By
1900 the family was living in Park County, Montana,
where they stayed for many years.
My questions are:
Is anyone else working on a related line?
How common are the names BLOME (or BLOOM) and
SCHIFFMAN (or SCHEFFMANN) in Germany? Are they common
in the Lippe area? The only evidence I have that the
family was from the Lippe area is my grandmother's
obituary.
Thank you
