Hello listers,
I am new to this list so I will try and give some background on the names on my search list.
My people migrated from Germany / Prussia to Australia during the 1800's. The information I have has been gathered mostly from family members and some official papers.
Ernst Theodor ZIMPEL was born to parents Carl August ZIMPELand Charlotta Kervietta GRABENTEN at Drahnoff, Deutsch Krone, Prussia in 1859 and migrated, with his brother, bound for Canada; but Ernst decided to stay in Australia, while his brother continued on to Canada. Ernst and his wife were married in Australia in 1887 and family history tells that he met his wife during the immigration process in Australia at the Customs Office. It was not believed that he had travelled via the "Quetta"
Johann Friedrch Martin REDLIN, born at Bubliz Kries, Jurthuthum, Pommern and his wife Wilhelmina Charlotta KARUL who was born at Grunweld, Pommern, Prussia, were farmers at Tychow;
(When Johann, Wilhelmina and their family had packed their meagre belongings, they travelled overland to Danzig, and from here by small boat to the port of Hamburg. There they stayed in a small inn while waiting for their bookings to be finalized to get them to London and the "Quetta" for their long journey to Queensland.
The "Quetta" sailed form Gravesend, on the Thames River, on 17th December, 1884, for Queensland, arriving in Brisbane, via Cooktown, Townsville, Mackay and Rockhampton, on 10th February, 1885.)
August PRYGODA was born 1878 Ortelsburg, East Prussia, Germany, arrived in Australia in 1909 (don't know on which ship) He was accompanied by his wife Maria Gertrude Feust and three children.
I will leave the Weismann and Ballhause information for another posting.
Kind regards and wishing all a Happy New Year
Cynthia Zimpel (nee Mackney)
