Niemeier/Niemeyer/Winters

Franz, Christiana, Maria & Henry came to USA sometime before 1860. I am told from around Hannover. Somewhere along the line, Franz m Anna Busch, Maria m Maas Peter Rolfs, have nothing on Henry and Christiana m Carl Christian Ludwig Lehms in Le Clair, Scott, Iowa. Christiana's mother was Christiana Winters. Anyone pitch in with information?

Hello Bill,

You have quite a task since the name Niemeier (Niemeyer) is a rather
common name in Germany. Are the four people you mention siblings? Were
these people Lutheran or Catholic? My people come from the Emsland area and
they are Catholic. There are Niemeiers listed in some of those towns.

I have checked the emigration archives and there are many Niemeyers
listed, but there is only one Franz. Of course, we know that a person can
have two or more names, so that complicates matters. Anyway, there is a
Franz Neymeyer from Liebenburg. You can order that record, but since the
name is rather common, that might not be the one you are looking for. There
are LDS films for Liebenburg - you may want to check there instead. That
also could be the wrong Franz. There are also 6 Niemeyers living today in
Liebenburg. You could contact them.

There are emigration records for the other three names you have.
However, it is difficult to pin down the right family. Some have similar
code numbers which would indicate they were from the same area and maybe
traveled together. But then, they may have traveled at separate times.
Also, many people emigrated without getting the emigration papers.

You probably have seen these names online:

Christina Niemeier (Lames or Lehms) is listed in Scott County Iowa
records (1801-1894).
And the LDS lists Franz Niemeier (death Dec 15 1906) marrying Anna C.
Busch on Jul 6, 1865. Anna was born Dec 2 1846.
I find it strange that none of them were listed in the 1880 census on
the LDS page. Maybe I'm missing something!

I'd suggest you should try to follow your own ancestor primarily.
Often, when you find a group of persons with the same surname in the same
place, they are not siblings, but cousins. However, if you know for sure
they are siblings, then the other names are more significant.

That's it, unless I think of something else!

Barbara

From the online Ortsfamilienbüchers (http://www.online-ofb.de/) I find
many Niemeiers and Niemeyers in the entire Bremen area, but not your people
that I can see.

Hello Bill,

that's quite difficult. Today there are about 5.000 Niemeyer or Niemeier in Germany, many of them in the Hannover area. I think without more exact details you are not very successful.

Sorry
