Niemeier/Neiemyer

I reference Fred Niemeier m 1828 to Christiana Winter(s) & both born about 1800 in Germany. They had Franz, Maria Johanna, Heinrich & Christena R. Family legend says they came from USA sometime around 1850's and ended up in LeClair, Scott, Iowa.

There is other indication they may have come from Aachen---wonder if both are correct. Is it possible they might have come from Aachen and that might have been a part of Hannover?

Am unable to find anything further on either Neimeier/Niemeyer or Winter(s).

Thanks for any insight.

Hello Bill,
I remember you from a couple years ago when you were searching for the
Niemeier/Winter family. That's too bad you still haven't found answers.

No, Aachen would not have been in Hannover. Aachen is in Rhineland,
unless there is another very small town by that name.

There are so many ways to spell that Niemeier name which makes a search
very difficult. The family was Protestant, as far as you know?

Maybe you have done all this, but I would suggest that you are not
going to solve this problem in Germany. You need to find all the marriage,
birth and possibly death certificates for Fred and Christina and ALL their
children. Somewhere there may be a clue that will help you. I recently had
great luck with my husband's great-grandfather from England. We knew very
little about that family. By pure luck, I found that there were obituaries
for him, his wife, his son, etc. That is where I found the birthplaces.
Only cost me $7 to get 5 obits. I was thrilled!

By doing a search in Iowa, I found what could be something significant.
There is a Cemetery listing in Waltham, Tama Co. Ia for Franz Niemeier, born
26 Dec. 1831 and death at 16 Dec. 1906. That could be the first-born Franz
perhaps. Then in Muscatine in Greenwood Co. there is a cemetery record for
Henry Niemeier, both 1845 died 1927. You could make some attempts to find
their marriage records and births of their children, including
naturalization records. That is all difficult because you have to be sure
you have the right person, with that fairly common name. See if you can
find birthdates on those two guys in census records. HOWEVER, I do not know
at all that these are the right family!!!

This is where you can find info on the Niemeier in the USA - I used Iowa
also to narrow it down. Tons of stuff to go through!

The mother was buried in Scott County, right? Christine Winter Niemeier
died in 1901. I wonder where her husband is buried. Check for church
records there.

I understand your frustration, but I really think in this case, you
are going to find the Hannover birthplace by looking at records or Bibles or
whatever in this country. There are two many Niemeiers and the various
spellings!

The only one Aachen in Germany is not located in Hannover region.
