Hello Mr. Niemann,
thank you for your question! We don't have these persons in our database. But on the passenger list I saw that their last province was Oldenburg. Therefore I sent a copy of this email to our mailing lists. I hope someone could help us to find your ancestors!
Niemann was a very common name. The meaning of this name is the same like Newman in English.
Best regards,
Gunter Jüchter
Thank you Mr. Jüchter & Mr. Buck,
I will check Ancestry.com (I maintain a Niemann Family site there). Do you think I should write to the address below for assistance?
Bischöflich Münstersches Offizialat
Bahnhofstr. 6
49377 Vechta, Germany
Thank you again. I appreciate your insight.
Cheers!
Bruce Niemann
Hello Bruce,
in the catholic area of the province Oldenburg, we have a lot Niemann families.
The farm history book of the southern Oldenburg provice, called "Oldenburger-Mnsterland" listed some Niemann farms in:
- Telbrake - parish Oythe
- Goldenstedt - parish Goldenstedt
- Astrup - parish Visbek
- Holtrup - parish Langfrden
- Deindrup - parish Langfrden
- Carum - paris Bakum
- Hne -parish Dinklage
- Vestrup - parish Vestrup
All this could be the origin of your ancestors - a big problem to find the right line.
I have some notices about Niemann emigrants before 1880 - not yours.
This people emigrated from Langfrden(Bergstrup), Oythe, Bakum(Elmenlage), Friesoythe, Vechta, Dinklage(Bahlen).
The passengerlist of castlegarden.org 18.Jun.1881 listed your family with an other calculated date of birth as you told:
Niemann Heinrich 58(*1823), (Ange)Lina 50(*1831), August 29(*1852), Toni 7(*1874), Johann 6(*1875), Josef 1(*1880)
The Offizialats Archive in Vechta can not make research for you - no time. Therefore I think, you must check church books by the LDS Center(Mormons), there microfilms available.
Good luck,
Werner Honkomp, Oldenburg
Hello Bruce,
helpfull could it be to ask the cemetery office in Chicago for burial documents. The documents shows some details about the origin and others.
In an other case I could clarify the origin of a family in Cincinnati with this informations.
Good luck,
Werner Honkomp
