New to the list

Hello everyone,

I am new to this list and unfortunately do not speak German. I am researching my family name SCHREIFELS from Mettendorf, Breuben, Rhineland, Prussia. In Prussia I only have only found direct ancestors, none extended. I am new to researching my Prussian history. I would love any help or Ideas. I also need to find somewhere that is accurate in the time line of Prussia's history.

I live in Stafford, Virginia just south of Washington D.C. I have not yet been to the National Archives but plan to go soon. Feel free to e-mail me if you may need help getting something from the archives, or with help on Virginia research.

Have a Great Day!!
Nicole

Hi Nicole,
you better join the Eifel-List of genealogy.net.
There exists a family book on Mettendorf to which members of that list have access to.
Much success

1) According to literad.de there are two
METTENDORF, one in Bavaria and one in "Rheinprovinz" of former "Prussia",
countie Bitburg. I think this one is correct. It had in 1933 about 1071
inhabitants. Look for the place 54675 METTENDORF (54675=ZIP)

http://www.mappy.com/ You will find it not far away from the
german-luxemburg border from today. Today it belongs to the state "Rheinland
Pfalz" in Germany.

Do it again with "SEIMERICH". Today it again near the border to Luxemburg as
a part of the village Koperich in Rheinland Pfalz. In 1933 only 33
inhabitants, also to BITBURG

SEIMERICH and METTENDORF have the same postal code 54675 and belong to
Rheinland-Pfalz RB Trier - Kreis (county) Bitburg-Prum (since 1949) which is
the EIFEL aerea.

This is the reason, the Eifel list ist better. Most interested here are
looking for the former parts of the GERMAN REICH as Ostpreu?en. You will
learn more about the right way to look for the ancestors in Germany in
http://www.genealogienetz.de/genealogy.html (in English)

On Rheinland-Pfalz – GenWiki you will find all
(in English) about Rheno-Palatiae (Rheinland Pfalz, including maps and
websides and the "Palatines to America"
To be a member (its really free) click
http://list.genealogy.net/mailman/listinfo/eifel-l (it is in German, but I
think you can get help?

oabout Korperich: http://www.eifelfuehrer.de/K/Koerperich.html. (and a map
and "Ortsverzeichnis" to Mettendorfs

Look http://www.roscheiderhof.de/kulturdb/kultur/kultur7128.html. (Something
about SEIMERICH in english)

Good Luck!
