New to List: Kammann

I am a new subscriber to this list, but I hope that if I read enough
messages my three years of high school German will come back. It is already
improving my English skills and history knowledge.

My Kammann ancestors came from the area around Hilter, near Osnabruck, in
the 1840s. (Note the spelling, with the L before the T; a friend just asked me
why they named the place after that guy.) They settled first in
Cincinnati, then in Dubois county, Indiana (or possibly just across the line in Warrick
county). Relatives lived in Jackson and Ripley counties, Indiana, and there
was apparently secondary migration to those places and elsewhere in Indiana.

Alternate spellings include Kampmann and Kamman.

I would like to hear from others who are researching this family, or these
origins and destinations.
