Max,
You likely may have already had access to the "Ortsfamilienbuch
Gross und Klein Elbe 1709 - 1875 mit Hofe und Hauserbuch." But, if
not, I have a copy of it and it has 18 listings for
BURGDORF/BURGDORFF families with at least 3 Johann Heinrich JULIUS
BURGDORFs listed from Gross Elbe.
If you don't already have that information, let me know and I will
pass it along.

Sahs/Sass or maybe Sasse in the vacinity of St. Louis, Missouri lead me to a biography.....
Herman C. Sasse a native of St. Louis Mo., he was born December 10, 1853,
to Adolph H. and Caroline (Wolter) Sasse , natives of Haverla*** ???and
Klein Elba**???, respectively, in the province of Hanover, Germany.
Anyhow, I am fairly certain that my grandfather
was born in BERGEDORF, Hamburg, Germany. On a map there is a river called Dove Elbe and I think Gross Elbe.
Funny also is an application for a Carl Max Theodore Sass for ciizenship in St. Louis Missouri Courts. I don't know if he was relative to my family, probobly not.
Probobly not the Herman C. Sasse either...for that matter.
But I am always interested in your posts because of the names Max and Carl, and the name Burgdorf..
Because I have looked for Max and Carl and the placename Bergdorf........
I have always been interested in trying to locate your Burgdorf.
Dove Elbe and Gose Elbe were arms of the river Elbe in the Vierlande which
is a rural district of Hamburg-Bergedorf. That is nothing to do with the
villages Groß Elbe and Klein Elbe which are some kilometers southwest of
Salzgitter. Haverlah is south and Burgdorf west of Salzgitter. There is
another town called Burgdorf, near the city of Hannover.
