Hello,
In my distant family tree I have the surname Siebum.
Richard L. Siebum Sr., a retired longtime patrolman with the St. Louis Police Department, died Thursday (June 7, 2001) of a heart ailment at St. Anthony's Medical Center in south St. Louis County. He was 61 and lived in Lemay.
A native of St. Louis, Mr. Siebum left high school early to work at the McDonnell aircraft company, now part of Boeing Co.
After he graduated from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Academy, Mr. Siebum joined the St. Louis Police Department as a patrolman in 1963. He served various districts in the city and earned nine chief's letters of commendation during almost 30 years on the force.
In 1991, he received the Medal of Valor from the Advertising Club of Greater St. Louis and the St. Louis Crusade Against Crime. He was given the award for his bravery in rescuing an elderly couple from a burning 12-family apartment building on Jamieson Avenue in 1990.
Mr. Siebum retired as a patrolman in the 2nd District in 1993.
He formerly coached baseball teams at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Lemay.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Kutis Affton Chapel, 10151 Gravois Road. A funeral service will be held at noon Monday at the chapel, followed by interment in the St. Paul Churchyard.
