Hello Mary,
I sent you question to Mrs. von Hammel who works on the parish records of Cloppenburg.
Best regards,
Gunter
Thank you, Gunter.
When you write 'parish' records, in the US - parish usually refers to the
Catholic faith. Church records would usually mean Prostestant. I am rather
confident that the Stahmer and Kaehlmann/Lohmann families were Prostestants.
Evangelical.
Kind regards,
Mary
Then they almost certainly didn't come from Cloppenburg or changed
their faith upon arrival here.
Fred
Fred,
The family was German Protestant/Evangelical, in Hickory Grove Township Warren
Co Missouri. They were early members of the Harmonie/Strack's Church there.
All 10 children of Diedrich/Dick & Louesa/Lizzie Stahmer/Stamer were christened
in that church.
Louesa/Lizzie Kaehlmann came from Melle Hannover Germany - perhaps it was she
who was Protestant and they followed her faith together.
Mary
Melle makes sense. My Ev. Ancestor came to Cloppenburg and promptly turned
up RC. You just wouldn't fit there otherwise.
