I am very interested in knowing my family history. I have traced it back to my 3rd great grandfather Louis Louis Gohmann, who immigrated to the U.S.A. On boat from Hannover, Germany in 1859. He arrived in Ohio with his brother & sister. I have records of my family from 1859 to now. He joined the army after arriving here & fought in our civil war where he was injured. I have all records of his millitary pention. I am trying to find out more about my family, as much as ppssible, before 1859. Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Please respond.

Niels is correct. Ages and names of the relatives, occupation,
destination, etc. will help confirm information which may otherwise be
meaningless. An example is the following information found

Note, they gave only their first initials. Looking for a full name
will many times lead one to overlooking pertinent information. Also,
be careful with dates. Always use a range of 2 years or more. Here is

Occupation: JOINER This is for both the two older individuals.
Ship: ADOLPHINE This is for all three.
PROVINCE OF LAST RESIDENCE: HESSE NASSAU This is for all three.
City or village of destination: CINCINNATI
The years of birth appear to be 1851, 1846, and 1844. Remember, that
if any of them had a birthday after 29 Oct 1860 the information could
be off by almost one year.
If indeed these are your relatives, it is the luckiest strike I have
had researching ancestors.
The last residence is probably Hessen-Nassau, which brings up another
subject. Be careful of subtle changes in name spelling between German
and English names. Also watch for the umlauts.
The Family History Library/Mormon/LDS had information on
Hessen-Nassau. Substantial in fact. Try this URL:

"Bohe" could have been written as an abbreviation for Bohemia.
Hi:
Don't forget the use of the unlaute in the word B�he oe Boehe. I did a
quick search and found a couple of streets by that name.
