My genealogy - Woida

I just found out that my grandfather, Frederick Albert Woida, sailed from
Bremen=Bremerhaven on the Bark
Johanne Marie and arrived in Baltimore, Maryland, port in April, 1873. The
manifest stated that he last lived in Hannover, but he was born in Preuben.
This is the first indication that I find stating where he was born. Does
anyone have any information about my grandfather's family. I would like to find
out where the records of his birth are kept, in order that I can trace back to
other relatives. He was of the Catholic Faith. Did the churches keep
records of births, deaths, etc. I would appreciate any information that you may
have, so, I can, finally, trace back. Thank you so much for taking the time
to reply to me. I really appreciate it. By the way, where is Preuben?

Preuben is Prussia. You may be mistaking a letter that appears to be a capital B but it translates to ss.

Hanover can be either a state or a city. I do not know your grandfathers birthdate but at one time Hanover was known as the Kingdom of Hanover(KOH).
I do not know the years of this reign.

Have you looked other places such as the LDS Family Search webpage? Many times the church is an excellent place to find records but first you will need dates and the exact city of birth. Sometimes the records are kepin the Diocese archives.
