MUNTZ - Deborah Brehony

Deborah;

My father Vernon Holtz, a long time Dundee native/"historian" replies regarding Muntz's:

Doug: only thing that comes to mind is a man Herman Muntz who had a
cartage business, and went into business latterly as Muntz & Lea. They
prrogressed and eventually went into the hardware business in Elgin. I
do not have first hand knowledge about the name nor do I know if he lived
in Dundee. These businesses were at the turn of the 20th century, and
continued at least until the mid 1950`s. Best I can come up with. Dad

Hope this helps.

Thank you so kindly for the information from your father - He seems a wealth
of knowledge! I do not know if Herman Muntz was a relation, but certainly
he could have been! I have since located my Great Great t Aunt Rose Muense
(an alternative spelling) who was listed as drowned in the Eastland Ferry
Disaster of 1915. She is buried at a place called "Eden Cemetery" in Cook
County, IL. Her father (my Great Grandfather) purchased a plot there, and
signed his name "John Munse". Interestingly, he purchased six plots for
$60.00 ($10.00 ea.), but no other Munse/Muense/Muntz are buried there!

I wish I could read the German postings. I do look at them, and I can pick
out a few words. Deborah
