Munderloh

Hello, Klaus,
I am new to this list and looking for anyone researching the surname
MUNDERLOH in the Oldenburg area.
The towns that would be helpful are Bordewisch and Elsfeth or Elspeth.
Other names in connection to this name is MONNICH (with an umlaut or
without the e). Gerd Munderloh (1820-1869) and Gerhard Monnich, emigrated
together in 1854 and after Iowa, ended up in Hooper, Nebraska about 1857.
Gerhard's sister, Anna, married Gerd Munderloh in Germany. Anna Monnich
Munderloh died on February 9, 1958. She is buried at the St. John's
Cemetery, in Hooper, Nebraska. she was Gerd Munderloh's first wife and
possibly from Holle.

I descend from the children of his second wife, Mary S. (STORK) Munderloh,
born in Prussia on January 21, 1838. This Stork family emigrated to Quincy,
IL. in 1854 and later moved to Nebraska in 1860.

Much of this information comes from "The First Settlers, A Little Biography
and History of Some of the Early Pioneers" which I do not have access to.
Other information can be found in the 1860 US Census for Nebraska, CD
M653\665\32 and a story written by Henry MAAS in 1915 who wrote of his own
experiences and includes some on the Munderloh and Monnich group. There is
mention of a WENKE in the early years of the area around Neuenhuntdorf in
the county of Bern.

I believe Klaus Wenke may know of this family.

Margaret Munderloh, Gerd's sister, married John WENKE. Would this connect
your line, Klaus?

I would like to connect you with my parents who have more information on
this family and and their experiences and descendants.
Please contact me directly so I may pass their e-mail to you offline. They
have more accurate information than I have here in Japan.
